Billy Connolly’s Route 66 : the Big Yin on the ultimate American road trip / Billy Connolly with Robert Uhlig.

Agnes’ adult non-fiction pick

(London: Sphere 2011)

Join the Big Yin as he gets his kicks on America’s most iconic road on a monster trike with a film crew in tow.

This was a trip he had wanted to make for a long time and he makes the most of it with visits to some fascinating places.  I especially enjoyed his descriptions of the various art and sculptures he encountered.

This was a really interesting read with lots of the American history behind the rise and decline of the many communities along the road.

Irreverent and opinionated, Connolly is at  his hilarious best when interviewing the everyday folks he meets along the way (whether he likes them or not!).

So, get on yer bike and head west – as Connolly says, “Come on, I dare you!”
