Silenced Majority: Stories of Uprisings, Occupations, Resistance, and Hope by Amy Goodman & Denis Moynihan

A non-fiction pick by Glenn
Haymarket Books, 2012

I’ve never admitted it before, however, Amy Goodman is my heroine.  An experienced investigative reporter, journalist, and columnist .. she is the host of the independent global daily news program Democracy Now!  What makes it different than any other news program?  I appreciate that the news they report often is in stark contrast to what gets reported by the ‘mass media’ which a recent Gallup survey indicates that 60% of Americans distrust and have little confidence in.  Democracy Now! provides the insight that is often glossed over elsewhere or left unreported.  What has this to do with the aforementioned book?  Simply the book summarizes many of the major stories and events in recent memory that have been uncovered and presented free from propaganda!  There are many topics covered but to list a few …. ongoing U.S. wars, the massive debt problems of the US, the politics of oil, wiki-leaks, corporate favouritism, and violence and guns in the U.S.  If you want a diversion from the stresses of the world maybe this one is not for you.  Otherwise pour your cup of tea and keep your eyes wide…
