Tumbleweeds by Leila Meacham

Shirley”s Fiction Pick:

Tumbleweeds (Grand Central Publishing, 2012)

I read Leila’s first book “Roses” and I liked it so I thought I would try this one, and it didn’t disappoint me.

Cathy, who lost her mother and father at the age of eleven, was taken to live with her grandmother in Texas.  She lived a privileged life in California but to be taken to Texas, where she knew no one, not even her grandmother, was very hard on her.

Before school started she met two boys,  John and Trey Don, who took Cathy under their wings and they became lifelong friends.  The book follows these three through their early school years and high school years where a love triangle forms and then a series of events eventually breaks them apart and they don’t know why.

What causes the breakup of these 3 inseparable friends?  What does John do that is shocking to everyone?  What happens to Trey Don?  How does Cathy continue on?

In reading this book you will get frustrated with the characters and wishing they would see things that are right in front of them.
