The PLAIN JANES by Cecil Castellucci &Jim Rugg

A YA Graphic Novel pick by Tara

Her whole world has changed and so has she. After an attack Jane’s parents move the family from Metro City to suburbia. Jane struggles with the change and feels her life is over. But there in the lunch room at the reject table she finds her tribe–three other girls named Jane. Main Jane encourages them to form a secret art gang and paint the town P.L.A.I.N. – People Loving Art In Neighborhoods. But can art attacks really save the hell that is high school?

Graphic novels aren’t usually something I enjoy but I loved this book. I found it interesting how Jane evolved after the attack and chose different priorities. I was confused by how her new community reacted to the art attacks as something bad. The JANES spoke to me and their ideas of art warfare were fantastic. I wonder if P.L.A.I.N. could happen here?
